funny friday: scare pranks!

Why do we find it so funny when someone is scared? I don’t know but we do. Today, is Funny Friday. That means it is time to relax and laugh out loud. Laughter is an important part of a Health and Wellness plan. You should get at least 15 minutes of good laugh out loud laughing a day. I hope you love the video below. Be sure and tell me in the comments if you laughed out loud, and why you think we laugh at other people being scared. I would love to hear from you.

self care Saturday: Resting when you are injured

Happy Saturday! This is not what I intended to talk about today, but because I have reinjured an old shoulder injury even typing is incredibly painful. So, short and sweet today. I am admittedly not good at slowing down, or taking it easy, especially when it is absolutely gorgeous outside and I have tons of things I would like to be doing, like gardening and such. I did manage to mow one tiny spot in the backyard, but my husband had to start the mower for me and I mowed with with one hand. I can still enjoy the weather just sitting still, lol. I can’t use the weed whacker or dig at all, or rake. I did get on the treadmill but I had to keep my right arm immobile because even walking it was pulling on my shoulder.

So, that is it. I am sitting still, resting my arm and relaxing. A nice change for me. If you have CKD like me, then you know how challenging it can be when you are in pain. There are not a lot of options for pain relief that are either effective or safe for the kidneys. I will do a self Reiki session before I go to sleep and that usually will help a lot to relax and sleep. Right now, rest, immobilization, Tylenol and heat are my choices. I don’t find ice comfortable.

Have a wonderful Saturday, and I hope your weather is as lovely as mine!

relax it’s the weekend!

Whether it is on a Saturday, or a Sunday, don’t forget to take some me time and just relax. For me it will be tomorrow, Easter Sunday. I tend to do my relaxing on Sunday anyway, except when I work and then my Monday is my Sunday. I think it is hard to just relax and not stress about backed up laundry, dishes, meal planning, school, work, family, friends, etc, etc, etc. Some alone time to relax and thing does a body good. So make sure you squeeze some in. Monday, or Tuesday I am sharing my coaching giveaway for April. I am giving my mailing list members a chance to sign up first. Are you doing my April Health challenge, toning up the triceps? Be sure and let me know in the comments how you are doing, or join my mailing list to see how I am doing.

Wellness wednesday: the christmas blues

Happy Day before Christmas Eve! This time of year is not always festive, bright, and cheery for some people. Not everyone gets all warm and fuzzy. There are a lot of reasons why people get the Christmas and Post-Christmas Blues.

1- Too high of expectations. When you want everything to be perfect, or expect a pre-conditioned result of what Christmas should and will look like, it is very easy to be let down or be disappointed. So, how to avoid that? Just let the day be what it will. Enjoy it, savor it, don’t try to control it. You don’t have to have the perfect tree, dinner, decorations, gifts, etc to have a beautiful Christmas Day. So many people get tied up in worrying about what others will think mode. This will only wear you down. If people are only coming to see you on Christmas because they care about all of the nonsense stuff then they are most likely not worth your time. Also, try not to make in-stone traditions. When they don’t happen you will be sad and disappointed. Rather make a compromise. For example, I hate traditions, but my husband appreciates them. So, he gets to have the tradition of the same meal each year, give or take, and the rest of us try to do something different each year. Change is hard and most people don’t like it, but it is necessary for a healthy life.

2- Knowing your limits. Some people are very social and need to be with lots of people. Others are not and feel pressured and stressed to lots of things at the holidays, such as parties, and get-togethers. Know when to say yes and when to say no. Will it enhance your life, or drain you? Don’t overbook yourself for all the holiday stuff. This year this may not be an issue due to Covid, however, be sure to not be bullied into going into large gatherings if you are not comfortable and sure you will be safe. People are selfish and don’t necessarily consider others which is sad.

3- Follow your diet. OK, so I said before I hate the term diet. It is a lifestyle choice, but some people actually have prescribed diets and the holidays can be hard. Do your best to stay on your diet so you don’t get sick. Holidays should not mean overeating things that will make you feel horrible. It really isn’t worth it. When I worked in the hospital so many patients after Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas would have to be admitted to the hospital due to not staying on their diets. You can still enjoy the treats and delicious food, just in small moderate amounts. Take some home with you to enjoy on other days. To the hosts of these meals please consider being considerate to family members on special diets and try to make meal items that are appropriate for them. What a sign of love and respect.

4- Be active! I know everyone gets tired of hearing this, move more, exercise more, blah, blah, blah. But, it really is so important for reducing stress, burning off those calories you ate. Do it as a family activity. Instead of lying around watching football, go play some tag football, go for a walk or go sleigh riding if that pertains to where you live. There are so many fun things that can be done to get everyone moving. If you don’t have anyone to walk with, check out my Walking Buddy Plan. Check out my walking stats from yesterday. It is possible, even with CKD, to be active!

5- Be social. I know this one is hard this time of year, but you could use Zoom, Skype, Facebook Messenger, or other apps to connect with loved ones or friends. You just have to be a little creative. Get out and volunteer if you can and it is safe. We volunteer at a local dog rescue. There are a million ways to volunteer though. Think of a cause you would like to support, it could be anything you care about, and then research ways to volunteer. If you are just lonely and need someone to talk to, check out my Just Text or Call Health Plan. It is #5 on the list of available plans. You could also consider adopting a shelter animal or fostering. Pets are wonderful companions. If you are older be sure and try to adopt a pet that fits your needs. You may not want a puppy who needs a lot of care and attention. Cats are great pets. If you lost someone special during the holidays it makes it even harder. Making new social contacts can help.

6- Reduce stress. I offer a number of ways to help reduce stress. Distance Reiki, Guided Imagery, Aromatherapy, and Mindfulness. There are others too like Massage, Meditation, Yoga, etc. My Etsy shop is currently closed so my Guided Imagery and Reiki plans are no longer available to purchase there. If you are interested in any of these stress-reducing topics, you can use the contact form at the end of this post to message me to learn more.

7- Get enough sleep. I think this is a given. I know if I don’t sleep enough I am ornery. If you would like to learn to sleep better use the contact form at the end of the post for a free health assessment with a follow-up meet and greet.

8- Be kind. Random acts of kindness, giving back, donating gifts or money are all great ways to lift your spirits. It doesn’t have to be expensive either.

9- Set a goal. Make a goal to keep your mind off of clutter during holiday times, especially if you know it is a hard time for you. Take a class to learn something new, start a new hobby that maybe will earn you some extra money, start meal planning to help save money, start a budget. There are so many health and wellness goals to be made and met.

If you are interested in working with a Health Coach to avoid the Christmas Blues, use the contact form at the end of this post to message me for a free health assessment and a follow-up meet and greet. All new clients get one month of coaching for only 25 dollars.

self care sunday: halloween fun

For myself part of self care is crafting and decorating for the seasons. You may have read my blog post on creating my Fall miniature fairy garden. Today, I am sharing some short videos for ideas to decorate your home for Halloween. This year money is tight for a lot of people, so upcycling or making recycled decorations and or costumes may be very important. The Dollar Tree offers some great options to make some affordable decorating items. I am way behind this year with my Fall decorating. I need to get going. I generally don’t just decorate for Halloween, but rather a Fall theme so items can stay up until Thanksgiving. The pumpkin video offers some cool, non carved pumpkin decorating ideas. You will see below and image of the etched glass candle holders I made. They are available in my Etsy shop. Also, my turkey candles. I do not make a lot of money on Etsy, it is more of a way to do something with all of the items I love to create. Some items I give as gifts too. Leave me a comment telling me how you decorate for Halloween/Fall. I would love to hear from you your creative ideas.

Simple Saturday Dollar Tree Garden Ideas

It is Saturday!  That means it is time to share some easy garden ideas.  I love gardening!  It is definitely something I do to relax.  I am not great at growing food, but I am pretty good at flowers.  Plus, I continue to learn.  I have been wanting an herb garden for some time.  Watch the video below to see a super easy, and cheap herb garden idea.  We will be going on vacation in June, so I won’t be setting this up until we get back.  I don’t trust that my son will remember to water it.  I will be sure to share my results when I do mine.  The first project is super cute too.  I have fairy garden lights, that I bought at Amazon, and they are solar-powered.  The next time I go to Dollar Tree I will get a watering can.  I don’t know if I will paint it.  It will depend on the colors.  The pictures are from my fairy garden with solar lights.  I change it for the seasons.  It is still a work in progress.  I need to get some more tiny plants and some people.  At Christmas, I buy the Dollar Tree village items.  I like to get my tiny plants at Trader Joe’s, but with shopping limits, it hasn’t been worth my time to travel that far to get there.  The image shown is my Spring fairy garden.  I need to start getting items for my Summer fairy garden.

Do you garden?  Will you try some of these projects?  Leave me a comment.

The video is not mine.  I found it on Youtube.

Simple Saturday: Paint A Winter Landscape

Updated 8/28/2021: I still have not painted mine yet, lol. I will try to get to it this week. I have all of the supplies, just forgot about it. I try to leave Saturdays for simple, fun, relaxing and de-stressing topics.  I have several hobbies that I thoroughly enjoy, and painting is one of them.  I have not painted in a while and I feel a little out of practice.  I found this tutorial on Pinterest.  Now, I have not tried it, but I watched it and it does seem very simple and basic.  I love painting landscapes.  You don’t even need a ton of supplies.  I do not like paint knives, so I will not use those, and I am not sure I like the way the white shadows on the water of her painting came out.  So, I will just use a straight edge brush when I do mine, which hopefully will be soon.  Anyway, if you do it, please share it, and I will share mine as soon as I have it finished.  I miss painting and I need to get back into doing it regularly.  Here in Florida I generally paint more in the Summer and do the glass etching in the Winter months.  Have fun relaxing on this Simple Saturday.
